Last Litter

The Last Litter Program was created to support families with pregnant cats. Cat pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum care can be challenging—especially for families without prior experience. West Sound PAWS has a dedicated team of experienced volunteer foster families who work to ensure the best possible outcomes for pregnant cats and their litters.

In this program, the owner retains ownership of the mother.  Ownership of the kittens is transferred to West Sound PAWS. The kittens are eventually adopted out through one of our centers.

In partnership with the West Sound PAWS Animal Welfare Manager and local veterinary teams, our fosters provide 24/7 care, including assistance during delivery and ongoing care for mothers and kittens during their first months of life. Mothers and kittens receive regular checkups (including weigh-ins) and appropriate vaccinations throughout their time in care. When they are ready, all kittens and mothers are spayed or neutered and microchipped.

Kittens who are ready for adoption come to our centers to meet potential adopters and, ultimately, move on to their forever homes. Mothers are also spayed and microchipped and then returned to their original families whenever possible. If returning them home isn’t an option, we will happily assist in finding them a loving home.

Throughout their stay, both mothers and kittens are socialized by their foster families and the West Sound PAWS team.
